Shoes to Create a Modern Mature Look

For someone that  grew up loving sneakers, transitioning outfits to reflect an older, more mature look, came with the sad realization that many of the Nike and Adidas collections did not fit the look I was trying to create. I had spent much of my late teens wearing Ultraboosts, Air Force 1s and Roches.

This is not to say these athleisure companies as a whole should be ruled out when updating your shoe collection. However, since you’re reading this there are a couple lines that can be easily worked into an older, more sleek look.

1. Converse's Chuck Taylor All Stars

First on the list of great shoes for a mature look, yes I’m being serious: Converse. More specifically, lowtop Chuck Taylor All Stars. These are a super cheap option yet provide a clean look, retailing at $64.99. The all white color way eliminates the child race stripes often associated with the classic shoe. They are incredibly durable as I have had the same pair for 4 years which included, hiking, back packing across Europe, and everyday outing.

2. Adidas' Stan Smiths

Coming from a beloved background of Ultraboosts, the Stan Smiths were an easy stepping stone to get into something that looked a little less ” straight from gym class”.  Retailing for $130 CAD.  They come in over 20 different color ways, varying from just the color of the heel tab to the entire shoe.  I would attribute the price bump from the converse to be in relation to an advanced level of comfort.

3. Veja Campos

Over the past couple years Veja has become one of the trendiest tennis-like shoes predominatly for creating a high quality shoe through ethical practices such as better labor policies and more sustainable materials.  This however, is why there is an elevated price point sitting around $220 CAD.

4. New Balance 1906s

For those more tailored towards extreme comfort and support while still trying to ensure your shoes keep pace with the rest of your outfits. New Balances 1906 Utilities gracefully walk the fine line between “Dad Shoes” and good style.  Retailing at $199, the 1906 line is offered in multiple colour ways.
